Navajo jewelry has been influenced by centuries of traditions and over a hundred years of craftsmanship.  This legacy is passed down from generation to generation.  Most of the jewelers learned their skills from their parents, siblings, grandparents or other family member. 

Most of the artistic talent is not limited to just silver work.  Most families include weavers, potters, sculptors, painters and basket makers.  As children many silversmiths took part in beadwork, painting, setting up weaving loom and working with clay.
